What is Couples Intensive Therapy?

HOW DOES COUPLES INTENSIVE THERAPY WORK?
Is Couples Intensive Therapy Right for Us?
A Couples Intensive May Be a Good Fit If:
You keep having the same argument without reaching a resolution.
Trust has been damaged after betrayal, infidelity, or broken boundaries.
You’re considering separation but want to fully explore the relationship first.
Weekly therapy hasn’t felt like enough to create lasting change.
What Can a Couples Intensive Help With?
Focus on the Patterns That Matter Most
Relationships usually aren’t struggling because of one conversation. More often, there are deeper patterns that keep showing up in different situations.
During your intensive, Renee helps couples identify those patterns while working toward healthier ways of connecting.
You don’t have to be on the verge of ending your relationship to benefit from an intensive. Many couples come because they care deeply about one another and want a more intentional way to move forward.
Healthy Boundaries
Together, you’ll explore how boundaries around communication, finances, extended family, privacy, expectations, and trust affect your connection and learn how to create agreements that feel respectful to both partners.
Communication
Understand why conversations become arguments and practice communicating in ways that lead to understanding instead of frustration.
Trust Repair
Whether trust has been affected by infidelity, secrecy, dishonesty, or repeated disappointments, therapy creates space to understand what happened and begin rebuilding safety together.
Emotional & Physical Intimacy
You’ll explore what’s creating distance and how to reconnect emotionally and physically over time.
Does Couples Intensive Therapy Work?
Couples Intensive Therapy Could Be the Remedy You Need
Couples therapy has been extensively studied, and evidence-based approaches consistently improve relationship satisfaction, communication, and emotional connection for many couples.
A more recent review of Emotionally Focused Therapy found that approximately 70% of couples were no longer experiencing relationship distress by the end of treatment, with many maintaining those improvements over time. (Beasley, C. et al. (2024).)
COUPLES INTENSIVE THERAPY
Renee’s Approach
Every couple develops patterns, and those patterns usually didn’t appear overnight.
One important part of Renee’s work is exploring each partner’s family of origin, or the environment you grew up in and the relationships that shaped your beliefs about love, conflict, trust, closeness, and communication. When couples begin recognizing how these early experiences influence the present, difficult interactions often start making more sense. That understanding creates opportunities for lasting change instead of temporary fixes.
Renee Lederman, LPC, is the founder of Relational Healing and has more than 20 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate relationship challenges. She specializes in marriage counseling, trauma, betrayal recovery, love addiction, love avoidance, and helping couples rebuild connection after painful experiences.
FAQ about Couples Intensive Therapy
How is a couples intensive different from weekly couples therapy?
An intensive provides several hours of uninterrupted therapy over one or two days. This allows you to explore relationship patterns in greater depth without waiting a week between sessions.
Do both partners have to want therapy?
Both partners should be willing to participate and engage in the process. Even if one person feels more hesitant, openness to the experience is an important starting point.
Are couples intensives covered by insurance?
No. Couples intensives are offered as a private-pay service.
Are virtual couples intensives available?
Yes. Renee offers both in-person intensives in Houston and secure virtual intensives for couples throughout Texas.
What if we've already tried couples counseling?
Many couples come to an intensive after feeling frustrated with weekly therapy. Spending concentrated time together often allows conversations to go further than they can during shorter sessions.
